We are happy to announce the bid distribution for EQC 2016!
This year, for the first time, 40 teams will be allowed to enter the European Quidditch Cup!
The number of bids will be based on both how many teams the NGB has and team performance at EQC 2015. Every team finishing in the top 8 will receive one bid for their NGB, and every team finishing below this but still in the upper bracket (9-16) will receive half a bid. Please note that these bids are awarded to the NGB, not the team that earned them.
In addition to this, every NGB will receive a base bid to ensure that all NGBs get the chance to send a team. After this, the remaining bids will be distributed based on the number of teams in each NGB. There will, however, be a cap, making sure that no NGB can receive more than 20 % of the bids. Lastly, 2 bids are reserved for developing nations in Europe, which must be recognised by the IQA as such.
This results in the following distribution:
- UK – 8 bids
- France – 5 bids
- Belgium – 4 bids
- Norway – 4 bids
- Italy – 3 bids
- Germany – 2 bids
- Turkey – 2 bids
- Spain – 2 bids
- Netherlands – 2 bids
- Poland – 2 bids
- Catalunya – 2 bids
- Austria – 1 bid
- Ireland – 1 bid
- Developing nations – 2 bids
As NGBs cannot send a non-integer number of teams, the numbers have been rounded to the closest number. If any of the NGBs choose to defer any of their bids, these bids will go to another NGB in the following order, based on how close they were to receive another bid:
- Italy
- Austria
- Spain
- Germany
- .Turkey
- France
- Belgium
- Norway
- Catalunya
- The Netherlands
- Poland
We would like to thank you for your patience and hope you are as eager as we are to see Europe’s finest play at EQC 2016!
